Pueblo Home of Heroes Association Essay Contest – 2021

 

Pueblo Home of Heroes Association, in cooperation with Pueblo City-County Library District, is pleased to announce the winners of the 13th annual essay contest.

This Year’s theme was:
“When was our nation’s highest military honor for valor, the Medal of Honor, created?
How has it changed over the years and what is its significance to Pueblo and Colorado?”

The following guidelines were required:

  • All entries must be typed:
  • 300 – 500 words for grades 4 and 5
  • 400 – 700 words for grades 6 – 8
  • 500 – 1,000 words for grades 9 – 12

Judges for the contest were: Ray LeMasters, Margo Hatton, Kevin Cover, Karen Micheli, Jim Stuart & Paulette Stuart
Pueblo Home of Heroes Association and Pueblo City-County Library District wish to thank teachers and parents for encouraging their students and children to participate in this essay contest.

 

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WINNER

1st place: Jaden Mendoza Lerma – – Eva Baca Elementary 4th Grade

2nd Place: Kayden Taylor – Eva Baca Elementary 5th Grade

3rd Place: Yorley Espinosa Mijarez – Eva Baca Elementary 4th Grade


Middle SCHOOL WINNER

1st Place: Emma Perry – Connect Charter School 7th Grade

2nd Place: Meagan Hughey – Pueblo Academy of Arts, 6th Grade

3rd Place: Joanne Wietzke – Home school 7th Grade

Honorable Mention:

Audrey Schmitz – Connect Charter School 6th Grade


High SCHOOL WINNER

1st Place:  Andrew Papesh – Paragon School 12th Grade

2nd   Place: Aspen Leng – Pueblo West High School 10th Grade
